Yale Child Study Center – Associate-Executive
Carol has been a clinical instructor at the Yale Child Study Center, where she supervised and taught master level social workers and psychologists. Presently, she serves on the Executive Advisory Committee for the Child Study Center. The Center is one of the world’s finest departments dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and families. Each Associates meeting is an opportunity to engage with researchers and clinicians and provides an opportunity to target philanthropic support of the Center’s programs.
The Little Orchestra Society – Board Member
The Little Orchestra Society shares the vitality of live classical music and seeks to build future audiences by presenting innovative concerts that incorporate multiple art forms to foster a deeper understanding and enjoyment of music. With original productions designed by our artistic staff, consulting producers, and program designers, the Orchestra’s mission is to make concert going and engagement in the live performing arts a lifelong pursuit. Carol is involved in strategic planning, expanding development efforts, and was integral in the search for a new conductor.
New York Philharmonic – Board Member, Patron Chairman, Patron Tour Chairman
Because of Carol’s love for music, she went on a Patron’s Tour in the early ’90s, and since then has traveled extensively with the orchestra and its patrons as Patron Tour Chairman. Recently, she was asked to be Chairman of the Patrons, a position responsible for organizing events to thank patrons for their support of the orchestra. In 2012, she became a member of the Board of Directors.
PerDev Perceptual Development Center – Board Member
PerDev is a unique Manhattan practice that helps children and adults become better learners. PerDev specializes in therapeutic and educational work that emphasizes the individuality of the child and the impact of perceptual development on all aspects of learning. This approach is particularly powerful as it combines brain-based research with humanistic and holistic intentions. Carol has taken a role in development, leading fundraising efforts for workshops for teachers and health care professionals.
Hackensack University Medical Center – Board Member
HUMC is ranked 3rd best hospital in the Metropolitan NY Area and #1 in New Jersey by US News & World Report. Carol sits on the Foundation Board, the Advisory Committee to the President, the Heart and Vascular Center Advisory Committee, and the HUMC Foundation Special Events Committee.
Ramapo College
Carol has served on the Foundation of Ramapo College for over 20 years, instituting the Carol D. Schaefer Human Service Award in 1987, an annual award which provides scholarships for those in social service who want to continue study in a masters program. Carol was honored at the Distinguished Citizen’s Dinner by the President of Ramapo College in 2002. She has spoken at Ramapo’s graduation ceremonies.
